I got this gem while using AI/MS Copilot for a broad search. There is no paper with this title - not in the Journal of Operations Management - and certainly not written by me. And, boy, Copilot is confident - "Happy reading!" and all!Cobble together a few bits of information from the internet into intelligent-sounding sentences, and you can fool people.I wonder if AI today is good enough to just(1) gather relevant pieces of data, (2) assemble them correctly following appropriate rules (e.g., grammar), and then (3) spit output that looks/sounds plausible/impressive.And if yes, can it go beyond that?

There is something about the human mind especially a researcher that results in fusion, synthesis, exploration and finally the innovation that becomes the foundation for research. AI is --- dumb! To date (and I hesitate to pay even for the $20 per month version for this reason), c**pGPT simply could not give me a single new idea on the subject of Work Simplification --- which began around 1921 or even earlier. NOT A SINGLE CREATIVE/INNOVATIVE IDEA! Still, take away all the hype that the tech giants have created, I have found amazing potential in Vision AI and its ability to track "objects" in work spaces of any size or shape. Even if the current offerors of Vision AI are blowing smoke up the <ahems> of their clients (and me too), for an IE its impact in a few years to come will be AMAZING!

Shardul Phadnis, If a journalist without technical knowledge has to go to a tech conference and prepare a report of proceedings there, he will prepare the report just like AI.

The concept of "strategic agility” is widely used but remains far from settled – especially in the complex world of firms interconnected in supply chains. Through a conceptual literature review, Prof. Paul Schoemaker and I explore its nuances, highlight its variation (based on organizational response focus and strategic actors involved), and illustrate them using prototypical cases in a forthcoming Strategic Management Review article: "Strategic Agility in Supply Chains: A Conceptual Research Review."Thank you, Prof. Tammy L Madsen and the review team, for guiding us in publishing this article, which I think many will find interesting.https://lnkd.in/gBsWTffQ#agility #adaptability #supplychains

I am thrilled to join the Institute for Manufacturing (IfM), University of Cambridge annual symposium on “Future-proofing Manufacturing Supply Chains” this September 19-20. Thank you, Jagjit Singh Srai and IfM colleagues, for the opportunity to share insights from my research on supply chain adaptation, resilience, and scenario planning. I am looking forward to enlightening discussions at this preeminent gathering of scholars and industry leaders tackling the supply chain challenge!

This week, I lost a mentor: Prof. Jonathan Byrnes. Jonathan has had a huge impact on me as a teacher. Much of how I conduct my case study classes is influenced by him, both through his direct advice to me on several occasions (including after voluntarily sitting in my sessions) and indirectly through his own teaching in ESD.261/1.261/15.771!But there was much more to Jonathan than being a teacher or a mentor. He lived a purposeful and exemplary life - focusing on what mattered to him and not making a fuss about other things (very hardy New England-ish!). Bruce Constantine's attached post exemplifies that. There is much to learn from it!I mourn this loss... But I also feel incredibly lucky to have crossed paths with Jonathan! 🙏

Great news indeed, Prof. Dr. Heiko von der Gracht. It is amazing how quickly F&FS has achieved prominence as a leading journal of foresight studies. Kudos to George Wright, you, and other members of the editorial board for this accomplishment! 👏 It is an honor for me to serve on this board along with the world's foremost scholars on this topic of foresight studies such as #scenarioplanning!
